Anybody there?

Time goes whistling by so I thought I would see if this still works.

Wednesday 12 February 2014

As Ted Doswell so perceptively pointed out when this Blog was created, "Now that you've got it, what are you going to do with it?" As time goes by the answer seems to be,"Very little".
That said, many visitors manage to click on the Have your say link if only to read or at least see what's here.
Possibly adding a post is not obvious or the steps required not intuitive, if so please let me know. Having nothing to say is also a valid reason for not saying anything.
Many visitors to the 92nd entry site never go beyond the home page (also known as the landing page) and while this is their absolute right some might be surprised to know the site has close to 90 pages.

Right then, what was it you wanted to say?

New Look

So 2014 brought with it the urge to change the look and feel of the site as well as some minor changes to help mobile users.
Anything you don't like can be changed of course but you would have to let me know as my diviner's rod is broken.

Livestream

The video studio created in order to provide coverage of the April reunions has been discontinued for a couple of simple reasons.
The upload bandwidth available in the Webbington conference room is simply too slow even for jerky, silent movie type of pictures.
The Livestream platform used to be free but following a recent decision, use of the servers now involves a monthly or yearly fee. Given the performance obtained during the past two reunions the project is a rather reluctant dead  duck.
An interesting technical challenge that unfortunately turned out to be a waste of time..

Labuan Toe

Next April, you may well be remembering more of your service career than you thought possible. Seeing old faces, hearing stories and anecdotes helped on by the odd glass or two will have your memory working overtime. Why not get a head start & leave some of your printable memories here?

Labuan Toe was an affliction well known to anyone who spent time on the island in Borneo. Every morning, sick quarters would see a queue of those unlucky enough to have been attacked by the monsoon drainage ditches while trying to navigate their way back to the billet after an evening in the NAFFI.

Your Mission Possible

There is still time to help find more of the entry before next April. We are not in contact with them for a variety of reasons: Some have died, some have emigrated, some don’t want to be contacted and some don’t know about us. Trying to find who moved to Pétaouchnock is not going to be easy but you like a challenge and like most of these games, the winner gets points – and points mean prizes.
An analysis of those we are in contact with would suggest the following breakdown:

Happy Birthday

Just in case you were short of an excuse to celebrate, you might be astonished to realize that your web site is one year old already since that fateful day when the champagne bottle was smashed to pieces during the launch.
In our short year, the site has had over 3000 visits and over 12000 page views which gives you some idea of what you can prove with numbers.
Although the site has had some success in keeping in touch with the faithful few, we are still trying to trace more of the entry so anything you can do or suggest would be very welcome.
Cheers...
